[Comments] Camp Drafting is a competitive sport where cowboys on horses select one animal from the herd of cattle, and direct it to a specific location.
This is part of their daily work on cattle stations.
Cattle stations in Australia are huge..many thousands of acres, and the cattle graze until required for market or treatment, then the teams go out and muster them and bring them to where they are required.
In the past cattle walked the track to town for sale, today teams on horses followed by a caravan with cook and supplies, still walk the cattle to a point from which they are trucked to the saleyards.
Jeans, the checked shirt, cowboy boots, and the felt or leather hat, called an Akubra after a well known brand, is standard gear..long sleeved because of the hot and burning sun.
The temperatures here are in the high 40's and there has not been sufficient rain this year so it is very dry and getting dryer as Outback Australia moves into its dry season in winter.
These photos were taken at the April Camp Draft in Blackall, Queensland, which is 1000 kms inland from Perth and Rockhampton.
