| [Comments] Abrolhos Islands are situated about an hours flight, 60kms west of Geraldton.
There are 122 islands in this archipelego.
The beautiful but treacherous reefs around the islands have claimed many ships over the years, the most famous being the Batavia which was wrecked in 1629 with 300 people aboard.
The survivors shelters were probaly the first europoean structures on Australian sand.
The Islands are now the centre of the area's crayfish industry and about 200 boats are licensed to fish here.
Warm currents make the Abrolhos Islands the most southerly coral islands of The Indian Ocean.
You are not allowed to stay overnight, but tours are available by light aircraft..which is how I travelled there for the cost of about $250.00
It takes two and a half hours to get there by boat and there are ecotours available for about $250.00 a day.
It was certainly a beautiful experience and the views from the plane are stunning.
The plane lands at Rat Island and spends the day there before flying back.
